On Friday August 30th our Auckland & Wellington teams headed to the central plateau to escape the city and enjoy a day of mountain air and snow-based activities.
Friday started with an early cooked breakfast care of the Auckland team and then it was off to Mt Ruapehu for a day of skiing and snowboarding. A few of the group decided to give snowboarding a go for the first time which resulted in many spectacular crashes – plenty of which were caught on camera by Sarah. Ben, Jack & Sarah showed the novices how it was really done on both skis and snowboards, whilst Leah cheered them all on from the warmth of the café’s bar.
As the weather closed in , the team headed into Turangi for dinner at the tavern where the team enjoyed hearing each other’s stories from the day. Heading back to their accommodation at Whareroa Village, on the shores of Lake Taupo, Friday became Saturday and the Wellington crew surprised Ben with a cake to celebrate his birthday.
The trip was a great success and helps keep our teams spread over the country connected.
